Well folks quite a while ago I was doing ale reviews on YouTube and BlogSpot which fell to the wayside once my camera died on me. But I have now decided to try and revive this project on Tumblr.
So to get the ball rolling today I’m going to be reviewing “Tavern Porter” which is from the “Thwaites” Brewery which is based Lancashire. The ABV of this ale is 4.7%. It is also a good thing for me to note that this is bottle conditioned ale which means that there is still active yeast in the ale to keep the process of fermentation going, so because of this I recommend taking extra time while pouring your ale as if you do not you will end with the extra yeast in your glass and this can affect the taste.
I will leave a link at the end of the review so you can have a look at the Thwaites website and find out a bit more about other ales or the brewery itself.
I bought this ale from Morrison’s for about £2 I imagine this ale would be available in most of Morrison’s stores within the UK as for any US readers it may be a case of ordering online or if you have a local specialist shop you may be lucky to find it in there.
The design on the bottle is simple but classic at the same time letting you know that this something to be savoured and enjoyed.
Before I poured the ale as always I smell the ale to see what aroma’s I can pick up, what I got from this ale was a deep smoky smell.
As I started to poured the ale it didn’t really pour much of a head. The ale itself was a deep dark brown colour.
After pouring I went on to taste the ale, my first thoughts were that it was a very dark tasting ale almost like a stout but not as heavy, it also had a smoky flavour with a hint of liquorice.
As I drank the ale I noticed that it also seem to have a creamy texture which gave it an interesting texture indeed.
My final thoughts on this ale is it that is well rounded and adds a unique flavour to the list of ales I have tried in the past due to this I am giving this ale 7/10.
Here is the link for Thwaites website which contains more information on there ales and there brewery: http://www.danielthwaites.com/

I’ll start it off by saying that it was a great read and progressed through the story very well and the artwork was amazing.
It was very interesting noticing the big differences between the comic’s and the TV show. With brand new characters and a whole host of different situations for the group to find themselves stuck in.
If you are a fan of the show and like comics I recommend picking this one up right away!
And as a little side note I just ordered book two so that should be here next week at some point.
But to be honest I really can’t be bothered.
